81 bags and 43 purses, and a good share of them are Islander Harris Tweed, woven in the Outer Hebrides. A large clasp purse in Royal Stewart tartan is £35. The Medium Caillie tote in black and white dogtooth is £68. For the mum who says she does not want anything

Something small and specific beats something large and general. A £14 notepad set chosen because she likes Austen lands better than a £40 gift set chosen because it was there. If she genuinely has everything, the answer is usually consumable: a candle, a soap, a good chocolate bar.

What is good for around £20?
That is our densest price band, so you have the most choice there. The warming mules at £21, a landscape print, or a Harris Tweed purse if you want something that will still be in use in ten years.

When should I order for Mother's Day?
